Search For Men Who Fled Traffic Stop Ends

By: Carlie Porterfield

The manhunt for two men who fled a traffic stop has ended after almost three hours.

Two men in a black Ford pickup truck ran away after being pulled over on Interstate Highway 35 (IH-35) just after 2 p.m. by a Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer. The officer fired shots at the back of the truck and struck a tire, causing the vehicle to turn into the frontage road and then into a nearby meadow. The two men fled on foot.

DPS was joined by officers from the San Marcos Police Department and nearby counties including Hays and Comal as well as the Texas Rangers. They searched a four-mile area between Posey Road and York Creek Road near the outlet malls. The search ended just before 5 p.m. after police failed to find the men. Police believe the suspects have escaped the area.

Representatives of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office said there is no continued threat to the community and ask any information regarding the suspects or their whereabouts be reported to police.

IH-35 remained open during the search, but traffic was backed up to New Braunsfels as a result of police presence.
