Second Party In Your Park 2019 To Feature City Departments, Mural Artists

The City of San Marcos will host the second event of the 2019 Party in Your Park series on Friday, May 17, from 5 to 8 PM at Swift Memorial Park, 200 Monterrey Street.

This month’s event will also feature a Community Connect block party and a public meeting with artists Jennifer Khoshbin and Celia Mendoza, who will gather public input on a mural they will create at the Conoco gas station on Hwy 123.

Party in Your Park

Party in Your Park is a series of events that will bring positive attention to the city’s neighborhood parks four times a year. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Attendees will enjoy a fun, safe evening while socializing with their neighbors.

Activities will include Gaga Ball, Mega Jenga, Giant Connect 4 and other oversized yard games. Snacks and refreshments will be provided at no cost. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or folding chairs to sit on if needed.

Community Connect Block Party

The City’s Neighborhood Vitality Team will host the Community Connect Block Party, an event to bring residents together with City departments to share information about their programs to the neighborhood. This is a great time for residents in the Wallace Addition neighborhood to learn about upcoming projects and programs or to provide their input.

Mural Community Input

The San Marcos Mural Arts Committee will host a community input session to allow artists Jennifer Khoshbin and Celia Mendoza to collaborate on a theme for the Conoco mural, which will help deter graffiti and beautify a highly visible gateway into the neighborhood.

Khoshbin and Mendoza bring artistry and community service together to create bold, thoughtful, public art to San Marcos. Together these women bring decades of experience in artwork, architecture, and community building to Texas.

They have been exhibited in galleries both nationally and internationally and have contributed widely to public art programs, including many works in San Antonio, Dallas, and New York City.

Sponsors

The Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank Grande Communications and Ted Miska Insurance Agency for their generous support as the “Life of the Party” sponsors and Ault & Ault Orthodontics as the “Social Butterfly” sponsor of Party in Your Park.
