US SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 3PM CDT SUN …HEAT INDICES BETWEEN 105 AND 110 EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON… A COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND INCREASED MOISTURE WILL RESULT IN ELEVATED HEAT INDICES THIS AFTERNOON.
VALUES OF 105 TO 108 ARE EXPECTED ALONG AND EAST OF I-35…AS WELL AS ACROSS THE RIO GRANDE PLAINS. A FEW SPOTS NEAR THE COASTAL PLAINS WILL FLIRT WITH HEAT ADVISORY CRITERIA WITH VALUES OF 108 TO 110 FOR AN HOUR OR TWO DURING THE MIDDLE OF THIS AFTERNOON.
RESIDENTS SHOULD REMAIN ALERT FOR SIGNS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF CONDUCTING STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES OUTDOORS… SUCH AS SCHEDULING FREQUENT BREAKS INDOORS OR IN THE SHADE AND DRINKING PLENTY OF WATER.
ALSO…BE SURE TO CHECK ON PERSONS WITH HEALTH PROBLEMS…CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY…AS THEY ARE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE.
