SIGHTS AND SOUNDS CANCELED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT.

Christmas music echoes around the streets. Christmas lights are hung on the courthouse and businesses around the square. Wreaths hang on the front doors of shops and offices. It all comes down to the final stretch. Do you hear Jingle Bells?

If you’re looking to have some fun with your community, the Sights & Sounds Jingle Bell Run is going to be a part of San Marcos’annual Christmas festival once again.

Participants come back year after year, and the numbers continue to grow annually. When the event was brought back to the festival 6 years ago, there were 36 runners, and in 2015, they had 817 runners.

Brian Olson was president of the board for Sights & Sounds of Christmas in 2011 when they decided to bring the 5K back to the 25-year-old festival and add the Kids K.

The board and organizers try every year to make the festival better than before; over the last several years, they’ve kept the event full of fun for families. But costs started to add up.

The Jingle Bell run is one of four events whose proceeds will go to funding this year’s Sights and Sounds of Christmas festival. Two of the previous events were Santa’s River Race and the Sights & Sounds Charity Golf Scramble.

The festival has several sponsors including the City of San Marcos, Central Texas Medical Center and San Marcos Toyota.

“We want to keep the admission costs as low as possible so all San Marcos families can afford to attend,” said Olson. “Having this additional revenue from the Jingle Bell Run helps to keep it inexpensive for families. We have an average of 70 speakers rocking Christmas music along the course; a lot of people come out of their houses to support.”

Being in the season for giving, the Jingle Bell Run will be giving each participant a high quality shirt if you register before November 28. There will also be a raffle for prizes that is rumored to be a $75 gift certificate to Kent Blacks, free haircuts, and electronics. In addition, 5K runners will win trophies for their age groups separated by five-years. All kids participating in the Kid K will receive a trophy.

The largest certified 5k in Hays County takes place on December 3. The 5K begins at 9 AM, and the kids Kid K starts at 10 AM. The Kid K encourages children and their families to dress up and have fun!

Jill Holechek, race director of the Sights & Sounds Jingle Bell Run, said, “I have directed lots of races, and this is my favorite because of the community involvement,” as she recalled the seemingly hundreds of people along the route last year. Having been with the behind-the-scenes of the events since 2012, she has witnessed the race grow tremendously over the years.

If you want to be part of the Sights & Sounds Jingle Bell Run, you can register at sights-n-sounds.org/5k/. The early registration price for the 5K is $25, and ends November 28. Then there is $30.00 Pre-Registration until December 2.

To register on the day of the race, December 3, its $35.00. Ticket sales will open at 8 AM. near the front entrance.

Whether you’re a participant in the 5k or Kid K, or an encouraging neighbor cheering on your fellow citizens; this is an event you won’t want to miss.
