SM Animal Control Continues Investigation, Cat Shot By Arrows Dies

Staff Reports

The San Marcos Animal Control is investigating a potential animal cruelty case after a cat, who was shot by an arrow, was found.

On Oct. 23, Astrid was brought in to the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter with an arrow that had gone through her hip and back leg.

Mutt Strutt San Marcos collected donations to help cover the costs of Astrid’s treatment.

Dr. Courtney Bridgeman from Dragonfly Veterinary Services amputated Astrid’s leg and helped her get on the road to recovery.

The shelter said once her surgery bills are paid, the remaining donation funds will go toward the treatment of other animals brought into the shelter.

However, Friday morning, the animal shelter reported Astrid had passed away during the night likely due to infection from the arrow entering her body.

“Our veterinary services team provided Astrid with incredible care and comfort, and we owe them a great deal of gratitude for their outstanding work,” the shelter said on Facebook. “We want to thank our community for all of their support throughout Astrid’s journey.”

The animal shelter said Animal Control will continue their investigation and is working with San Marcos Police Department to potentially file animal cruelty charges.

There are no suspects at this time.
