San Marcos CISD and the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce would like to invite local businesses to host a student in the annual Groundhog-Day Job-Shadowing Event on Thursday, Feb. 2.
Every year, the school district and the chamber partner to provide high school students with an opportunity to spend a day learning job readiness skills with local business leaders.
“It’s never too early for students to start planning for their career, so the Chamber would like to encourage our local business community to sign up for this great event. The Groundhog Day Job Shadowing Event is an opportunity to link our education community with our business community,” said Jason Mock, President/CEO of the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce.
A job shadowing experience provides a student with a better understanding of how to obtain employment, gain insight into special skills needed for different careers and recognize the day-to-day operations of the participating businesses.
Participants receive an opportunity to highlight what they do every day and why it is so important to the success of their business while preparing our students for college and a future career.
Additionally, participating business owners will help to strengthen the education and knowledge base of our local youth…who one day will become our future leaders.
“The sooner students start looking at a career; the more likely they are to make educated decisions concerning their future. The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce is so appreciative to the San Marcos CISD and our businesses community for opening doors to students and offering such a successful learning experience,” Mock continued.
If you are interested in this annual event, please print and complete the host application below. The deadline to submit your application is January 13, 2017.
This annual event is open to any business in the area, including non-chamber members.
Hosts will receive additional information about the event and suggested activities for the day.
The experience will assist these future leaders as they pursue their educational and career goals in the future.
