SMA Lady Bears Win Home Opening Game Against Local Rivals

San Marcos Academy and cross-town rival Hill Country Christian are a lot like siblings: they love one another, but that doesn’t stop them from being intensely competitive.

Such was the environment Sept. 15 when the Lady Rams came to campus for the Lady Bears’ home opener, which SMA won in three closely fought games, 25-23, 27-25, and 25-21.

The Lady Bears JV also had success in their match against HCCC, with a 2-1 victory (14-25, 25-16, 25-19).

During the match, SMA and HCCC followed TAPPS COVID-19 guidelines, which call for limited attendance, masks, and social distancing. But the restrictions did not dampen the spirit of the players or the fans.

The win is the second for the Lady Bears, who won their season opener at Austin-San Juan Diego, in a 3-0 match last week. SMA will travel to New Braunfels Thursday to face the NB Christian Academy Wildcats.
