SMA Students Support School Fuel San Marcos

San Marcos Academy students stepped up to the plate for School Fuel San Marcos, donating 1861 food items for the special sack that goes home with local students for the Christmas holidays.

Lower School students at San Marcos Academy joined the middle and upper grades in collecting items for School Fuel. Mrs. Diana Lucas’s kindergarten class collected the most items among the Lower School classes and enjoyed an ice cream party as their reward. | San Marcos Academy

The Academy’s Leo Club and Student Ambassadors co-sponsored the food drive in November as a contest between advisory classes.

Coming out on top was Mrs. Margo McClintock’s class, which will receive a pizza party for their efforts.

School Fuel serves 703 students in San Marcos who have a high risk of little or no food in their home.

These students receive a sack of food in their backpack each Friday to provide nutrition over the weekend.

Three times a year, at Christmas, Spring Break, and before the summer holiday, School Fuel sends home a “special sack” that contains a sleeve of Ritz crackers, a jar of peanut butter and a Hershey bar.

In addition to collecting items for the special sack, SMA Leo Club members and Student Ambassadors
frequently volunteer at the Thursday sack packing
sessions at the School Fuel headquarters.
