Small Business Invests In Community With Big Donation To Buda Library

A local small business with a generous heart has made a difference with a $7,770 donation to the Buda Public Library. Sweet Nails and Spa pledged a year ago to contribute $1 of every pedicure from June 21, 2018, through June 21, 2019, to the Friends of the Buda Library whose mission is to support the library through fundraising and advocacy.

Owner Anthonio Quach, explained that after two years of business in Buda, he recognized, “The community’s been great to us, so I wanted to give back to them.” Quach approached Buda Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director J. R. Gonzales for guidance.

Gonzales suggested Sweet Nails support the library through the Friends of the Buda Library. Quach, enthusiastic about helping local youth, embraced the project. “Nothing feels better than giving forward,” he explained.

“Sweet Nails Salon Invests in Community,” proclaims a framed plaque behind the reception desk. Quach encourages other small businesses to do the same, and to realize that, as the numbers of small businesses give back locally increase, even small amounts of money add up to make an impact. Quach said he noticed a substantial increase in the number of pedicures requested as word spread to customers about the commitment he had made, resulting in the sizeable contribution he is able to make to the library this year.

“It is amazing what one small business can do over a period of time to give back to their community,” said Friends of the Buda Library Fundraising Committee Chair Roberta Haas. “It is my hope that other businesses will follow Sweet Nails’ model to identify and invest in their areas’ non-profits.”

Quach said this first charitable effort is “not going to stop there.” He will develop a new and different project in the coming year to help the Hays Food Bank.
