SMCISD Child Development Center Honors Couple On Earth Day

Earth Day is a global celebration in support of the environment.

Each year, the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Child Development Center family plants a tree to commemorate Earth Day. 

On Friday, April 21, they planted a Burr Oak, a tree known for its strength, massiveness and protective shade, in honor of a couple who have been influential in the SMCISD School-Age Pregnant and Parenting Program and Child Development Center for many years.

George and Carol Anderson have been long-time supporters and friends of all the CDC students and their families. George always takes the time to help a little friend, giving high 5’s and smiles— as well as having played Santa one year. Carol was formerly a Pre-K teacher and left a legacy of learning. 

The Child Development Center staff said, “George and Carol remind us of burr oaks, having shown their strength in serving young families in the San Marcos Community for decades— both as friends, advocates, leaders, guides, and teachers. Like the Andersons, this burr oak will share its shade for years to come.  Long ago, the leaves of a tree like the burr oak were woven into crowns for Olympians, so we plant this tree to honor our Olympians for young families.”
