SMCISD Hires Executive Director Of Communications And Community Relations

The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District School Board is proud to announce the hiring of Andrew Fernandez as the Executive Director of Communications and Community Relations.

Fernandez will begin his career with the district in late May. He is excited to bring his communications background and leadership skills to enhance both external and internal communications strategies.

The new hire will join the SMCISD team after spending the last three years working at Harlandale Independent School District where he served as the district’s Public Information Officer for two years and Publications Editor for one.

During his time at Harlandale ISD, Fernandez served as the district spokesperson and implemented several new initiatives to highlight a variety of district programs.

Prior to his time at Harlandale ISD, Fernandez worked in administration for the City of Kirby and also spent three seasons working in the Basketball Communications Office for the San Antonio Spurs, including the 2014 Championship season.

Fernandez is a proud graduate of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a specialization in Journalism.

“I am extremely excited to join the San Marcos CISD Family! In my opinion, the district and the city are a hidden gem in Central Texas and I am looking forward to unveiling all the great qualities our district has to offer,” Fernandez said.
