SMCISD Receives Report Card From TEA

Every year, the Texas Education Agency reviews test scores for school districts around the state. School districts and their campuses are graded on four criteria: student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary reading level.

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District received a “Met Standard” accountability rating for the 2016-2017 school year.

Every year, the Texas Education Agency reviews test scores for school districts around the state. School districts and their campuses are graded on four criteria: student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary reading level.

Target scores for the categories are…

  • Student Achievement = 60
  • Student Progress = 32
  • Closing Performance Gaps = 28
  • Postsecondary Readiness = 12

SMCISD exceeded the target scores in all four categories on a district level. While the district earned a score of 67 in student achievement, 39 in student progress, 36 closing performance gaps and 70 in postsecondary readiness, the district as a whole did not earn distinctions. However, five campuses earned individual distinctions.

Hernandez Elementary school earned a distinction in Academic Achievement in ELA/Reading and in Science; the school was ranked the Top 25 Percent Student Progress distinction.

San Marcos High School received a distinction in postsecondary readiness. Miller Middle School earned a distinction in ELA/Reading. Crockett Elementary earned distinctions in both ELA/Reading and postsecondary readiness.

Bowie was ranked in the Top 25 Percent Student Progress. DeZavala Elementary earned a “Met Standard” rating; however, the campus failed to meet the target score by one point in student achievement.

The 2017 ratings can be changed if a school district, charter or campus appeal their score. Final results will be released in December. To explore the results of SMCISD’s campuses visit the TEA website.

In 2018, the TEA will switch to an A-F rating system; schools will be graded on three different criteria before the grade is averaged the same way a student’s GPA is.
