SMCISD Starts Year 2 Of New Approach To Lunch, Breakfast Program

The San Marcos CISD Child Nutrition and district campuses announced on Aug. 20 it will continue its policy to operate the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2020-2021 school year.

Schools qualifying to operate CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals.

This new approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.

In August 2019, the San Marcos CISD announced the new policy for the lunch and breakfast program providing free breakfast and lunch to ALL students.

According to the SMCISD website, “Our district is committed to providing every student with the tools they need to succeed, including nutritious meals they can enjoy. This year, we have been approved for the Community Eligibility Provision, a meal program option offered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that allows us to serve school breakfast and lunch at no charge to all enrolled students, regardless of financial circumstances.”
