SMCISD Trustee Juan Miguel Arredondo Will Seek Re-Election In 2020

After 5 years of dedicated service to the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District, Juan Miguel Arredondo, announced that he would be seeking a third term to the San Marcos CISD school board.

Arredondo was first elected to the board in May of 2015 to fill the remaining two years of an unexpired term. In 2017, Arredondo was reelected to the board with 63% of the total votes cast.

“Serving my hometown and our school district has been a privilege of a lifetime,” Arredondo said. “As a fifth generation San Marcos native, proud product of our public schools and Texas State University, I can think of no greater cause than the education of our community’s children to dedicate my time.”

When reflecting on his time as a trustee, Arredondo said he is most proud of his work focusing on high expectations and equity for every child, supporting innovation in the classrooms, providing world-class facilities to all students, and being a good steward of taxpayer dollars.

“In less than five years, our school board has committed to graduating all kids’ college, career, or military ready. We have invested in our employees by approving five constitutive compensation increases – the largest in our district’s history. We passed a bond that is positively impacting every child at every school by providing more classroom space and school improvements without raising taxes. We capped elementary class sizes, offer families a full day pre-k program, added gifted and talented facilitators to every elementary school campus, expanded our district’s music and art programs, launched a dual-language program, implemented a district-wide AVID college access program, and started an early-college high school at San Marcos High School.”

Arredondo came onto the board at a time of transition for the district. His tenure on the board has been centered on his passion to provide much needed resources for the students and staff who are in most need – those who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds or face other challenges that can create barriers to success.

In his next term, Arredondo said he would remain focused on improving equity throughout the district, work to improve special education and dyslexia services, expand access to social, emotional, and healthcare services for SMCISD students and families, all while remaining accessible to constituents.
