SMCISD’s New Director of Secondary Curriculum & Accountability

On January 26, 2015, the San Marcos CISD Board of Trustees approved the recommendation of Freeman “Hensley” Cone, Ph.D. as the new Director of Secondary Curriculum and Accountability.  Cone earned his degrees at Texas State University: a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology, a Masters in Educational Administration (with Mid-Management Certification), Superintendent Certification hours, and a Ph.D. in School Improvement.

He began his career in education as a science teacher in Hays CISD, and later became the assistant principal at Jack C. Hays High School. He went on to serve as Special Programs Director at Nixon-Smiley CISD and principal of Nixon-Smiley High School. Cone served as Curriculum and Instruction Administrator at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School and Director for School Improvement at North East ISD –both in San Antonio. In addition, Cone has been a faculty member of the University of Phoenix online teaching courses in Assessment and Evaluation and in Supervision of Educational Administration Internship.

He and his wife Debie, an elementary pre-kindergarten teacher in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, are the parents of two boys: Mason and Carter who are in the 4th and 1st grades, respectively. Cone is a member and past president of the Lions Club, and both he and Debi work on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society—having together raised over $20,000 in the past few years. Cone is also a Volunteer Life Member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
