SMFD to Host Groundbreaking for Fire Station 6

Staff Reports

The City of San Marcos is hosting a public groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. to mark the beginning of construction on the San Marcos Fire Department’s newest station. Station 6 will be located at 5716 S Old Bastrop Highway, in the TRACE neighborhood.

Located in southeast San Marcos, Fire Station 6 will service a growing portion of the community. The project will also include the purchase of a new fire apparatus.

“We’re excited to break ground on Fire Station 6,” said Chief Les Stephens. “As the City and the San Marcos Fire Department continue to grow, the new facility will allow us to continue providing efficient and quality service to our community.”

The $7 million bond project was approved by voters in 2017. A developer will contribute $2.5 million to the project, with the City’s capital costs totaling $4.5 million.

WestEast Design Group of San Antonio, TX., Seidel Construction of New Braunfels, TX., and Jacobs Engineering Group of Dallas, TX. were selected for the project.

The groundbreaking program will include Mayor Jane Hughson, Public Safety Director Chase Stapp, Fire Chief Les Stephens, and other members of City staff. Members of the San Marcos Fire Department and City leadership will participate in the ceremonial dirt toss.
