SMHS Academic UIL Team Take District Championships

SMHS Academic UIL Team Take District Championships
Speech & Computer Science
 
The San Marcos High School’s Academic UIL Team had a strong showing on April 10-11, 2015, at the 27-5A Academic UIL District Meet at Memorial High School in San Antonio.  SMHS was declared Team District Champions in both Speech and Computer Science.  This was the 7th straight year that the SMHS Speech Team has won the UIL District Championship.  The SMHS Academic UIL Team will be sending eight students to compete at the Academic UIL Regional Meet at UTSA on April 24-25.
 
The complete results are as follows:
 
In Computer Science, Tommy Stanley placed 1st and advanced to Regionals, Liam McMains placed 3rd and advanced to Regionals, and Levi Jordan placed 6th. The Computer Science Team also won 1st Place and advanced as a team to Regionals.
 
In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Max Murdoch placed 3rd and advanced to Regionals.
 
In Informative Extemp, Kristie Chau placed 1st and advanced to Regionals, and Shawn Rushing placed 6th.
In Poetry Interpretation, Julisa Gasca placed 1st and advanced to Regionals, and James Saucedo placed 2nd and advanced to Regionals.
 
In Prose Interpretation, Emily Leslie placed 6th.
? Competing at an earlier date but contributing points toward the Speech Team Championship, in CX Debate, Samuel Kirkpatrick and Caroline Soechting placed 1st and advanced to State, Nathasja Evans and Elizabeth Contreras placed 2nd and advanced to State, and Will Hutchinson and Corey Rodriguez placed 4th.
The Speech and Debate Team won the 1st Place Speech Team award.
 
In Spelling, Felix Aguon placed 2nd and advanced to Regionals.  The Spelling Team of Felix Aguon, Sarah Weaver, and Lillian Eliaz also won 2nd Place Team.
 
In Current Events, Max Murdoch placed 6th.
In Ready Writing, Felix Aguon placed 6th.
In Calculator Applications, Tristen Velasquez placed 6th.?
