SMPD Arrests Man Wanted For Murder In Virginia

“Through diligent coordination, we were able to help Virginia law enforcement agencies arrest the suspect in this homicide,” said San Marcos Chief of Police Chase Stapp.

The San Marcos Police Department has arrested a man accused of a murder in Virginia.

At around 10 p.m. Feb. 20, SMPD detectives, with the assistance of a SWAT arrest team, took Jake Andrew Lewis (DOB 08/24/1994) into custody at 121 Craddock Ave.  He was armed with a handgun but was arrested without incident.

San Marcos Police received a call for assistance from Virginia law enforcement following a Feb. 17 homicide in Axton, Va. They believed Lewis, the suspect in the homicide, was in San Marcos.

“By following up on information from many sources, we were able to pinpoint an address for the suspect at The Met Apartments,” said SMPD Commander Kelly Bomersbach.

According to the Henry County, Va. Sheriff’s Office, Eric L. Adams was fatally shot Feb.17 at 110 Keen Dr. in Axton, Va. Investigators identified Lewis as the shooter after reviewing video from the victim’s surveillance system.

“Through diligent coordination, we were able to help Virginia law enforcement agencies arrest the suspect in this homicide,” said San Marcos Chief of Police Chase Stapp. “We always stand ready to assist outside agencies, especially when dealing with felony investigations.”

Lewis faces charges in Virginia of first-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of first-degree murder.

He is being held in the Hays County Law Enforcement Center pending transfer to Virginia law enforcement.
