SMPD Arrests Suspect In Armed Robbery Of Local Business

Abraham Barrera

On Monday, March 25, 2019, at 3:04 PM, the San Marcos Police Department responded to Planet K at 910 North IH-35 for a report of an aggravated robbery.

Witnesses informed police that the store was robbed at gunpoint by a Hispanic male wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, and a dark bandana over his face. The suspect fled the business prior to officers arriving on the scene.

Officers in the area began a search for the suspect, while initial responding officers interviewed witnesses at the business.

During the investigation, officers learned the suspect may have fled in a tan color suburban. Police officers searched the area and were able to locate a vehicle matching the described vehicle in the 800 block of Sturgeon.

Officers began surveillance on the vehicle and within minutes, Abraham Barrera (01/13/2000) approached the vehicle.

Barrera was then observed entering a residence. Additional units responded to the area where Barrera was arrested for Aggravated Robbery and Theft of a Firearm.

Evidence and property were found at the scene on Sturgeon as well as the firearm used in the robbery. Investigators determined the firearm was stolen.

A records check of Barrera discovered a warrant for violating his probation. He is currently at the Hays County Jail with no bond due to the pending probation violation.
