Soccer Inks Six In 2018 Class

“We are very excited about our 2018 class. We were able to fill holes both offensively and defensively that were open from our graduating seniors,” said Conner.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State soccer coach Kat Conner announced the signing of seven players to the 2018 class.

Joining the Bobcats in the fall will be Paige Crossman, Chasity Haas, Gabie Jones, Kayla Geren, Ally Kewish and Hannah Solano.

“We are very excited about our 2018 class. We were able to fill holes both offensively and defensively that were open from our graduating seniors,” said Conner. “The class will be a nice compliment to the talent that we have already. I can’t wait for August. This will be a fun group as their work ethic and desire to win is contagious.”

Paige Crossman

Crossman will arrive in San Marcos via Vandegrift High School in Austin. She is a 5-foot, 5-inch forward that has recorded 15 goals and nine assists the past two seasons. In 2017, Crossman was an All-District 25-6A honorable mention and academic all-district selection.

The 2016 campaign saw her be named the Vipers’ Offensive MVP after tallying 11 goals and four assists. That year saw Crossman be named All-District 25-5A First Team and receive the District 25-5A Midfielder MVP award.

“Paige is a very versatile player that is strong on the ball and has the skill to go at your or find that longer penetrating pass,” Conner said. “When I was watching Paige at her high school or club games, she was an attacker. When she came into our ID camp she showed that she could play both sides of the ball and become a tough defender which made me certain that we needed her on our team.”

Addison Gaetano

Gaetano is a 5-foot, 6-inch defensive back from Houston. She will graduate from Memorial High School, where she has helped lead the team to back-to-back bi-district championships and were area finalist in the UIL tournament. In 2016, she was a part of the District 18-6A championship squad that finished the season 20-2.

Kayla Geren

Geren brings a state championship pedigree to the Bobcat squad after helping lead Hendrickson High School out of Pflugerville, Texas to the UIL 6A championship in 2017. She scored the match-winning goal in the 2-0 victory in the 31st minute. For the season, Geren tallied 13 goals and was credited with two assists while earning All-District 13-6A First Team honors

In 2016, the 5-foot, 1-inch forward recorded seven goals and eight assists as the Hawks finished 20-1-2 and reached the UIL 6A Region 2 Area Finals.

Geren is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned academic all-district honors all three years.

On the club soccer scene, she plays for the Austin Texans Soccer Club and coach JD Cochran. Last year, the future TXST player finished with 12 goals and five assists in the Southern Regional Premier League.

“Kayla is so much fun to watch. She reads the game very well and knows exactly where to be for an opportunity at goal,” said Conner. “She is quick, loves to turn and take defenders on and her winning attitude is contagious. I know she will be a fan favorite.”

Chasity Haas

A 5-foot, 4-inch defensive back, Haas is coming off an All-District 25-6A Second Team selection season in 2017 that saw her finish with four goals and eight assists for Jack C. Hays High School in Buda, Texas. She was also an All-District 25-6A honorable mention selection with three goals and nine assists, and earned academic al-district honors in 2016.

Haas has played for the FC Lions since 2014. This past fall she helped the Lions SCL 99 Red to a 7-2 record. During the summer, Haas and Lions competed in the New Balance International Cup held in Huddersfield, England.

“Chasity has so much potential. I look forward to seeing how much she develops into an elite athlete and special player!” Conner exclaimed. “She has come out our ID camps two years in a row and you can see she loves the game and competition! She is a natural lefty, has good speed and is very tough to beat.”

Gabie Jones

Jones is a 5-foot, 2-inch outside defensive back that will be joining Vandergrift teammate Paige Crossman on the TXST roster in the fall. This season she is serving as team captain for the Vipers and are coming off a state finals appearance. The soon to be Bobcat enters her senior season ranked in the top 10 in school history for assists.

Three times Jones has been named academic all-district and was named All-District 25-6A honorable mention in 2016. In the classroom, she is a member of the National Honor Society, National Charity League and Spanish Honor Society.

Jones is also a member of the track and field team. She participates in the 100-meter dash, long jump, triple jump, 4x100m relay and 4x200m relay.

The future Texas State player will be the second member of her family to play for Coach Conner. Her older sister Ali Jones was a member of the soccer team from 2013-16.

“Gabie is a mentally tough and gritty layer with an endless work ethic; It must be a Jones’ family trait,” said Conner. “She is a very good defender, although I think she could play outside midfielder. She is quick, smart and has a great first touch with good vision.”

Ally Kewish

Arriving in San Marcos from Round Rock, Texas, Kewish is a three-time academic all-district honoree. The 5-foot, 2-inch midfielder has helped Round Rock High School reach the UIL 6A Regional Quarterfinals in 2016 and 2017.

She has played for the Lonestar Soccer Club for the past three years.

“Ally is one of the most driven, disciplined and selfless players I have seen come through this program. Her engine is constantly on high,” Conner stated. “She is very smart and reads the game well. I have seen her play every position, except goalkeeper, and be an impact. Ally is the type of athlete I like to coach and she always wants to achieve.”

Hannah Solano

Solano will be competing for time as either a forward or outside midfielder for the Bobcats. She will arrive in San Marcos after graduating from McNeil High School in Austin, Texas. With the Mavericks’ soccer team, Solano was named the District 13-6A Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, selected to the all-district first team the past two years and is a three-time academic all-district honoree.

Along with competing on the pitch, she has also competed for the school’s golf and track & field teams. Solano earned academic all-district honors in both sports.

“Hannah is a player that finds a way to score and do so multiple times. She is deceptively quick and because she reads the game and the pass that is about to be made, she is always making runs to get in behind and cause trouble for opposing team’s defense,” said Conner. “Hannah is another player that will be fun to watch and one that I can’t wait to coach.”
