Special I-35 Traffic Alert, Ongoing Road Construction, Closures And Detours

SPECIAL TRAFFIC ALERTS

 

I-35 AT POSEY ROAD

On Wednesday at 9 p.m., the southbound I-35 mainlanes will close at Posey Road. Traffic will detour to the southbound I-35 frontage road via the Posey Road exit (#199) and will re-enter the I-35 mainlanes at the entrance ramp just south of Posey Road.

All lanes will reopen to traffic as work is completed, but no later than 5 a.m. (See map.)

 

ONGOING ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Closures, Detours, Traffic Alerts for June 27 – July 3

I-35 AT POSEY ROAD

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project will construct a new overpass on I-35 over Posey Road, add two new U-turns in each direction at Posey Road, perform ramp reversals and convert two-way frontage roads to one-way.

Currently, the I-35 main lanes go under Posey Road. The new configuration will have the I-35 main lanes going over Posey Road.

THIS WEEK’S PROJECT TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Closures are weather permitting

  • Posey Road bridge closed at I-35.
    ° Until further notice
  • Northbound I-35 exit closed continuously at Centerpoint Road (#200).
    ° Until further notice
  • Southbound I-35 left lane closed continuously from Centerpoint Road to York Creek Road.
    ° Through late July
  • Southbound I-35 closed at Posey Road.
    ° Wednesday, July 1 from 9 PM until 5 AM

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The project will reconstruct the bridge structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, as well as the frontage road bridge over Williamson Creek.

New U-turn bridges will be added in both directions at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and the I-35 main lanes will be widened to incorporate shoulders and extended entrance/exit lanes to allow for better merging.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements are also being made, and new safety lighting is being installed.

  • Northbound and southbound I-35 closed from William Cannon Drive to Slaughter Lane.
    ° Sunday, June 28 from 11 PM until 5 AM

I-35 AT OLTORF ST.

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads.

Additionally, construction of new extended entrance/exit lanes for main lanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street.

Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits.

  • Southbound I-35 right two lanes closed nightly from Woodland Avenue to Stassney Lane. Multiple entrance and exit ramps will also be closed in the project area.
    ° Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 from 8:30 PM until 6 AM

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LN. TO US 290 EAST

PROJECT OVERVIEW | This project includes main lanes and frontage road reconstruction and the addition of three new flyovers at US 183.

The project also includes reconstruction of the St. Johns Avenue Bridge, the addition of frontage road U-turns on both sides, intersection bypass lanes under St. Johns Avenue in both directions, extended entrance/exit lanes, and ramp and shoulder improvements.

  • Northbound and southbound I-35 left lane closed nightly from Rundberg Lane to St. Johns Avenue.
    ° Sunday, June 28 through Thursday, July 2 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed from Blackson Avenue to US 183.
    ° Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed from Blackson Avenue to Huntland Drive.
    ° Sunday, June 28 through Thursday, July 2 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Eastbound and westbound St. Johns Avenue closed at the I-35 frontage road.

  • Northbound US 183 frontage road left lane closed from Cameron Road to Norwood Park Boulevard. The I-35/Lamar Boulevard exit and Cameron Road entrance ramp will also be closed.

  • Southbound US 183 frontage road closed nightly from I-35 to Carver Avenue.
    ° Sunday, June 28 through Thursday, July 2 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Northbound US 183 frontage road right lane closed daily from Norwood Park Boulevard to Clock Tower Drive.
    ° Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 from 9 AM until 3 PM
  • Southbound I-35 right lane closed nightly at US 183. The northbound US 183 flyover will also be closed.
    ° Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 from 9 PM until 5 AM
  • Southbound I-35 frontage road closed nightly from Wonsley Drive to US 183.
    ° Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 from 9 PM until 5 AM

I-35 FROM 1431 TO FM 3406 (NORTHBOUND)

PROJECT OVERVIEW | The intersection of FM 3406 and the I-35 frontage roads are being improved, and the FM 3406 bridge over I-35 is being reconstructed.

The FM 3406 (Old Settlers Blvd) bridge will close to eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic will detour to the newly constructed U-turn Bridge.

      • Northbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane from Jeffrey Way to the RM 1431 exit ramp.
        ° Through early 2021

I-35 FROM US-79 TO SH-45 NORTH

PROJECT ACTIVITY | New braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) are being constructed along the northbound I-35 main lanes between Hesters Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts.

I-35 AT PARMER LANE

PROJECT OVERVIEW | Reduced congestion, improved mobility at Parmer Lane and Lamar Boulevard, operational efficiency, more reliable travel times, lower fuel consumption.

The start date is summer 2019 and is scheduled to be completed summer of 2021. The construction costs are estimated to be $24.6 million.
