Stassney Lane Bridge Demo On Horizon, Making Way For New And Improved Crossing

Bigger is better, especially when it comes to bridge safety. Later this month, crews will demolish the Stassney Lane bridge over I-35 and a new, taller, wider bridge will be built in its place.

The new bridge, which is expected to take about six months to complete, will improve safety and mobility on both the mainlanes and Stassney Lane. This is the third and final phase of the I-35 from Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive project.

While crews rebuild the bridge, the same number of travel lanes will be maintained on Stassney Lane. Drivers will be able to cross I-35 using the newly constructed U-turn bridges.

Temporary signs and barricades will help motorists navigate through the construction zone. Pedestrians will be able to cross I-35 on the north side of the bridge.

The I-35 from Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive project will enhance mobility, safety, and connectivity for all modes of transportation.

Improvements include upgraded entrance/exit ramps, reconstructed bridges at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, and non-signalized U-turns. In addition, improved lighting and sidewalks will provide safer bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Work on the $79 million project is expected to be complete in 2020.
