Cybersecurity briefing to take place in San Marcos

State of Texas CISA teams up with GSMP, City of San Marcos for upcoming Cybersecurity Briefing

Staff Reports

HAYS COUNTY – The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the economic development agency for Hays and Caldwell Counties, will partner with the City of San Marcos and the State of Texas Cybersecurity Infrastructure and Security Agency (CISA) to deliver an important briefing on cybersecurity threats.

The briefing, scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is a hybrid event called “Shields Up” and will feature keynote speaker Ernesto Ballesteros, the cybersecurity state coordinator for Region 6 of CISA.

“Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, cyber-invasions have increased exponentially, causing the Department of Homeland Security to respond with programs and resources such as Shields Up,” said Barbara Thomason, director of workforce development, business retention and expansion at GSMP. “While we had the small business owner in mind for this briefing, we find the content valuable for everyone given the increased threat levels we see now nationally.”

Participants may choose to join this event in person at the San Marcos Public Library Multi-Purpose Room, 625 E. Hopkins Street, San Marcos, TX 78666 or by Zoom. There is no charge to participate, however registration is requested at shieldsups.eventbrite.com.

Additional information about cybersecurity and current digital threats to our region’s individuals and businesses can be found at cisa.gov/shields-up.
