Stonite Surfaces Celebrates Grand Opening In San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS  – Stonite Surfaces celebrated their grand opening with an official ribbon cutting and tour of their technology-driven fabrication facility in San Marcos, Texas.

Stonite Surfaces partners, Roberto Contreras and Chester Layne, were joined by San Marcos Chamber of Commerce in the official duties and welcoming over 100 guests at the grand opening event.

The evening was sponsored in part by Wilsonart, USA, MSI, and Comandulli North America. Friends, industry leaders, and community partners enjoyed cocktails and light bites while touring the newly opened facility.

Stonite Surfaces offers a wide variety of luxury products including, marble, quartz, granite, porcelain and surfacing applications, including the new design concept of using large porcelain slabs in place of natural stone.

While popular in Europe, porcelain surfacing is now being used in the United States and expertly installed by Stonite Surfaces.  Design ideas that were once limited by the constraints of using natural stone are virtually eliminated with the use of large porcelain slabs that can be installed on floors, walls, counter tops, and much more.

Founded by Roberto Contreras and Chester Layne, Stonite Surfaces combines decades of experience in fabrication, installation, and commercial and residential development.  Contreras, an international entrepreneur, was also the founder and CEO of Stone Systems and Cosentino North America.

Additionally, Contreras is CEO of Houston-based DC Partners, an award-winning real estate development and investment firm specializing in luxury high rise condominiums and mixed-use developments in Houston, as well as The Arts Residences at the Thompson San Antonio hotel currently under construction in the downtown arts district.

Chester Layne, President of Stonite Surfaces, has over 20 years of experience in the stone and surfacing industry. Prior to co-founding Stonite, Layne worked in every aspect of the surfacing industry before founding his own fabrication facility in Orlando, Florida. He then joined the Stone Systems management team as the Regional Director for Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

Kelly Masters will serve as Director of Sales. Masters brings wide-ranging experience to the team with previous senior management positions in the surfacing and fabrication industries in Central Texas.  Brent Spell, adds master-level fabrication experience, will oversee facility operations as Production Manager. Brea Setter, who has managed all levels of customer service operations for multiple companies across the United States, will serve as Manager of Office Operations and Accounting.

“Based on my experience in residential and commercial development, I saw a need for high quality fabrication in the Central Texas market,” said Roberto Contreras, Principal at Stonite Surfaces.  “What many developers and builders are faced with is a company that does one or the other resulting in inconsistent quality and a loss of time and profit. The mission of this company is to offer high quality fabrication and the newest trends in materials.  I am very proud of the avant-garde materials, such as the large format porcelain, that we have to offer.”

With technology as the driving force behind the company, the fabrication facility was designed to incorporate and enhance the advantages it offers.  State-of-the-art equipment allows for detailed customization and the ability to handle expansive projects that exceed previous standards.  The all-inclusive facility and service expedites the process from fabrication to installation, enabling the contractor to optimize their production and profit.

“Our goal is to not only provide the best product, but also the best service,” said Chester Layne, President of Stonite Surfaces.  “I take particular interest in building highly specialized teams and collaborating with industry experts to stay on top the latest technology and trends.  We are positioned to lead the industry in Central Texas and we look forward to expanding our local employee base by adding over 100 people in the near future.”

Stonite Surfaces is located at 5650 IH 35 in San Marcos.  The Showroom is open to the public and to the trade.
