Straight Ticket Voters: Scroll All the Way Through to Vote in Local Elections

As early voting continues, the San Marcos City Clerk’s office reminds straight ticket voters to double-check their ballot before hitting the “vote” button to ensure they have made selections in the local elections and any propositions on their ballot.

Non-partisan elections such as City Council and propositions will not automatically be selected if a voter chooses the “straight ticket” option. Voters should also pay special attention to elections in which a candidate is running unopposed and elections with no candidates from the voter’s selected straight ticket party.

Early voting for Nov. 8, 2016, local, state and national elections began Monday, Oct. 24 at designated early polling places.

Election Day will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at designated polling places.

Registered voters will need to bring photo identification to qualify to vote, but according to the Texas Secretary of State, if a voter does not possess an acceptable form of photo ID and the voter cannot obtain such ID due to a reasonable impediment, the voter may still cast a regular ballot by presenting a supporting form of ID and executing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration, noting the voter’s reasonable impediment to obtaining an acceptable form of photo ID, and stating that the voter is the same person as the person on the presented form of supporting form of ID.
