BATON ROUGE, La. – The Texas State soccer team recorded a strong defensive effort Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to LSU at the Tiger Soccer Stadium. The Bobcats combined to record 12 saves on the day, tying for the fourth most in program history in a match.

With the loss, Texas State drops to 1-3-0 on the season while the Tigers are now 2-1-0.

LSU scored a little over halfway through the 21^st minute when Tinaya Alexander sent the ball down the left side. Abbey Newton kicked in a cross from the left side that found Adrienne Richardson, who one touched it into the net.

Early in the 28^th minute, the Tigers had a breakaway chance but Heather Martin came up big with a stop. The ensuing shot three seconds later saw the Midlothian, Texas native catch the attempt on frame.

Kathryn Budde came in a halftime in goal and continued the brilliant Bobcat goalkeeping. The junior came up big on a one-on-one situation early in the half for her first save of the day.

Davis had a great opportunity to tie the match in the 58^th minute. She attempted a one-touch shot but miss hit it after getting behind the LSU defense in the box.

The first shot on goal for the Bobcats came in the 66^th minute from Davis. Jordan Kondikoff followed a minute later with an attempt on goal from just over 20 yards out that was right at the Tigers’ goalkeeper.

Hannah Solano had a great look to tie the match in the 68^th minute when she made a great run into the box to get a pass from Davis. After juking out a defender, the freshmen sent a high shot that resulted in the keeper having to tip the bar over the crossbar for a corner kick.

Early in the 71^st minute, LSU put together a passing display to get through the Texas State defense. It ended with the Tigers taking a 2-0 advantage on Richardson’s second goal of the match.

Davis attempted a match-high four shots but only placed one of them on goal. Both Kondikoff and Solano saw both of their shots being on frame.

Martin recorded seven saves in the first half. She moved into fifth on the program’s career saves list, surpassing Caitlynn Rinehart (2012-15) with 139 stops. Budde posted four stops in the final 45 minutes and a team save was recorded off a corner kick as well in the second half.
