About The Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force: The Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is located in a World War II era hangar at the San Marcos Airport.  This Wing flies the B-25 Mitchell bomber, “Yellow Rose”.  This famed aircraft is the same type of plane the Doolittle Raiders flew off the carrier USS Hornet in April 1942, to bomb Japan after the destructive attack on Pearl Harbor.  In addition to the B-25, they fly 14 other historic aircraft including a P-39, a  Japanese torpedo bomber, a Japanese Zero, C-45, 4 T-6s, U-3, L-5, CJ-6 Chinese Trainer. In addition, the Wing is restoring a BT-13 Trainer.
Their mission is to educate and keep history alive for present and future generations by letting them see and touch a piece of our country’s rich past.  They perform in front of thousands of spectators at air shows around the country, perform flyovers, set up static displays, and give history flights in historical warbirds.
Their organization is staffed by volunteers who have a love of history and work to keep history alive for young and old alike.  Each year, their 140 Wing members spend over 50,000 hours of their own time keeping these aircraft flying, maintaining our World War II museum, providing educational  tours to school groups and civic organizations through our hangar, and raising funds to support our efforts.  The Wing also hosts three major fundraising events: a casino night, a golf tournament, and a Veteran’s Day dinner dance.
The hangar is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Website: www.cafcentex.org; Facebook: Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing; Twitter and Instagram: @cafcentex
