Sun Radio Foundation Donates $10,223 To Flood Relief

The Federal Communications Commission bans all non-commercial radio stations from on-air fundraising to benefit any entity other than the station itself. Due to the extreme nature of the situation, including loss of life and property, Sun Radio successfully petitioned the FCC to waive the Commission’s rules, thereby allowing the Sun Radio Foundation to help these specific charities.

On June 10, Sun Radio collected donations during an all-day live broadcast from Cypress Creek Café in Wimberley. The event included interviews with local residents and officials, and live performances by Alejandro Escovedo, Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, Kelley Mickwee, Wood & Wire, Robyn Ludwick, Susan Gibson, Billy Bright and Alan Munde.

Per the FCC waiver request, The Sun Radio Foundation added to these contributions an amount equal to one-half of the weekly donations made to Sun Radio June 8-14.

Sun Radio is the only non-commercial broadcaster in Austin or San Antonio to seek relief from the FCC in order to help the victims of the unprecedented Memorial Day floods.
