For those residents with tacky branches hitting windows in the home or with an old couch that has seen better days, a community cleanup for residents with bulky garbage might be the answer.

The City of San Marcos will host a community cleanup for brush waste items Saturday at 750 River Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until trash containers are full.

The City will also accept bulky furniture, recyclables, and hazardous waste as part of the cleanup.

There will also be a limit of up to five passenger tires and two televisions per household.

Recyclables, or  “green waste” items and bulk junk, and hazardous waste must be accompanied by a copy of a City utility bill, and residents will need to unload their own materials on-site.

Acceptable green waste includes trees and brush trimmings, grass clippings and leaves. Unacceptable green waste items preclude brush containing metals such as barbed wire.

The entrance to the community cleanup will be located at the San Marcos Animal Shelter entrance at 750 River Road, where signs leading to the event will then be posted.

This service is provided only for residential solid waste customers in San Marcos, and residents are invited to load and take ground up mulch at the site as available with the option of using new green waste carts to dispose of brush items.
