Tanger Outlets San Marcos enlists the community to help name its Queen Bee, beginning July 5th

Regional outlet shopping destination gives honeybee colony new home as part of environmental responsibility program

Staff Reports

SAN MARCOS — To celebrate the buzz around the arrival of its newly installed rooftop honeybee colony, Tanger Outlet San Marcos welcomes the local community to help name its Queen Bee! Shoppers can submit ideas from July 5th– July 8th for the queen bee’s official royal name by submitting name ideas on Facebook, Instagram, or in Shopper Services. Participants will vote for entries on July 9th– July 11th, and the winning name will be announced the week of July 12th.

The resident queen bee of this Alvéole hive is busy laying up to 2,000 eggs daily that will eventually hatch into 50,000 female workers and male drone bees. Her Majesty requires a court of bees to help feed, hydrate and clean her. At the end of the season, the hardworking honeybees will have produced the equivalent of one hundred jars of hyperlocal, artisanal honey per urban apiary.
