TCEQ Air Quality Forecast Update: Saturday – Tuesday

Saturday 05/28/2016

Winds may be light enough and incoming background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Moderate” levels in the Dallas-Fort Worth and El Paso areas, with highest concentrations in the afternoon and early evening.

Smoke from agricultural burning in Mexico and Central America will continue across the midsection of Texas, with the daily PM2.5 AQI forecast to reach “Moderate” generally within an area bounded by a Del Rio-to-Wichita Falls line on the west and a Bonham-to-Galveston line on the east.

Elsewhere in the state, moderate winds and/or lower incoming background levels should help to keep air quality in the “Good” range.

Sunday 05/29/2016 Outlook

Winds may be light enough and incoming background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Moderate” levels in the Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, and Houston areas, with highest concentrations in the afternoon and early evening.

Smoke from agricultural burning in Mexico and Central America will continue across South Texas and will spread back into parts of Central and West Texas as well. Overall, the daily PM2.5 AQI is forecast to reach “Moderate” generally along and south of a line from El Paso to Odessa to Waco to Baytown.

Elsewhere in the state, moderate winds and/or lower incoming background levels should help to keep air quality in the “Good” range.

Monday 05/30/2016 Outlook

Winds may be light enough and incoming background levels high enough for ozone to reach “Moderate” or, if there is enough afternoon sunshine, possibly higher levels in the Houston area, and “Moderate” in the Beaumont-Port Arthur, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, and Tyler-Longview areas, with highest concentrations in the afternoon and early evening.

Smoke from agricultural burning in Mexico and Central America will continue across most of South and West Texas, and perhaps spreading into the Panhandle as well. The daily PM2.5 AQI is forecast to reach “Moderate” in the Brownsville-McAllen, El Paso, Laredo, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, and San Antonio areas. Some lingering smoke plus local particulate add-on should also allow the daily PM2.5 AQI to reach “Moderate” in the Houston area.

Elsewhere in the state, moderate winds and/or lower incoming background levels should help to keep air quality in the “Good” range.
