TCEQ Hands Out Fines Totaling $1,197,351 For Violations Against 46 Regulated Entities

Yesterday, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved penalties totaling $1,083,788 against 46 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations.

Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: five air quality, one industrial wastewater discharge, five multimedia, one municipal solid waste, six municipal wastewater discharge, 10 petroleum storage tank, five public water system, one sludge, three water quality, and one waste disposal well.

Included in the total are fines of $313,910 against Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc., in Jefferson County for air emissions violations in 2011 through 2016. As part of a Supplemental Environmental Project, $282,519 will be paid to the Texas Association of Resource Conversation and Development Areas to repair or replace failing public water systems throughout Texas. The remaining $31,391 will be paid to Angelina Beautiful Clean to conduct collection events for household hazardous waste.

Default orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: one dry cleaner, one multimedia, two municipal solid waste, three petroleum storage tank, and one public water system.

In addition, on Dec. 19, 2017, and Jan. 16, 2018, the executive director approved a total of 65 penalties, totaling $113,563.
