Texas Gov. Abbott bans ‘vaccine passports’

On Tuesday, April 6 Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he issued an executive order banning state agencies from creating a “vaccine passport” requirement or requesting an individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status.

“An individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status is private health information, and no government entity should compel disclosure of this information by mandating a so-called, “vaccine passport” for COVID-19…” Abbott stated in the executive order

The order also prohibits any public or private entity that receives public funds, including grants, loans or other disbursements of taxpayer money from requiring consumers to provide documentation of vaccine status in order to receive any service.

“Every day, Texans are returning to normal life as more people get the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. But, as I’ve said all along, these vaccines are always voluntary and never forced,” said Abbott. “Government should not require any Texan to show proof of vaccination and reveal private health information just to go about their daily lives. That is why I have issued an Executive Order that prohibits government-mandated vaccine passports in Texas. We will continue to vaccinate more Texans and protect public health — and we will do so without treading on Texans’ personal freedoms.”

Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made a similar decision by banning “vaccine passports” saying they infringe on personal freedom and decision-making.

  1. No he didn’t.
    .
Abbott’s order merely prevents vaccine passports mandated by the state of Texas, with the vast majority of private businesses remaining unaffected. Only private businesses that receive government money are prevented from requiring vaccine passports, meaning it would be almost impossible for the average citizen to know whether any business that requires a vaccine passport is in compliance with the executive order or not.
    .
In short, any member of the public who does not take the vaccine will be ejected or arrested if they try to enter any business which under law is a “public place” if it is Open To The Public. (As opposed to Costco, Sams and other membership only businesses).

This governor is a snake in the grass.

    1. You are 100 percent correct.
When any business is “Open To The Public”, for example H-E-B grocery, it is then by law a ‘public place’ which is governed by public law–not by private policy. If you can be arrested in a public place on the basis of a private policy, then our nation is in BIG trouble. Sheepherders admit that sheep are the most stupid animals alive–except for human version.

    2. Ever heard of a tax-break or subsidy? That’s government money. Nearly every business receives some level of government funding. Even if its just on the milk they buy or the employees they hire. Government money is everywhere.

That slippery slope goes both ways. So, it’s best to avoid it and just let people live their lives as they choose.
