Texas Oncology Earns Accreditation from American College of Radiation Oncology

“We are honored to receive this independent validation of the high quality of radiation treatment that we provide patients in our Central Texas locations…”  said Dr. Steve Paulson, Texas Oncology chairman and president.

The Texas Oncology Central Texas radiation oncology team announced today that it has received full accreditation from the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), following an extensive and detailed review of the practice’s procedures, staff, equipment, facilities, and specific treatment cases.

ACRO’s accreditation program ensures nationwide consistency in practice standards and is updated regularly to reflect clinical and scientific advances.

The comprehensive review includes on-site surveys and a peer-reviewed audit scrutinizing Texas Oncology’s administrative capabilities, policies and procedures, physics, treatment safety, medical and support staff, and technology and equipment.

In addition, reviewers trained in specific types of cancer examine numerous individual charts to evaluate the overall quality and effectiveness of radiation treatment given to patients.

“We are honored to receive this independent validation of the high quality of radiation treatment that we provide patients in our Central Texas locations. It’s an exhaustive review and a credit to the commitment of our dedicated physicians and support staff,” said Dr. Steve Paulson, Texas Oncology chairman and president. “The review process is an important opportunity for us to continuously reflect on our commitment to the highest standards for the radiation oncology treatment that we offer.”

The Central Texas-area team includes nine radiation oncologists:

  • Dr. Ryan Tierney, Texas Oncology–South Austin
  • Dr. Catherine Wu, Texas Oncology–South Austin
  • Dr. Srivani Thatikonda, Texas Oncology –Austin Midtown
  • Dr. Carl Nuesch, Texas Oncology –Austin Central

  • Dr. Scott Lawson, Texas Oncology –San Marcos
  • Dr. Karen Cohen, Texas Oncology–Round Rock

ACRO’s mission is to ensure the highest quality of care for radiation therapy patients, and promote success in the practice of radiation oncology through education, responsible socioeconomic advocacy, and integration of science and technology into clinical practice. The practice accreditation program was launched in 1995.
