SAN MARCOS – For the first time in 11 years, the Texas State baseball team is heading to the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats were selected as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Stanford Regional when the bracket was announced jointly by the NCAA and ESPN on Monday.
“Really excited for our guys. They worked extremely hard, put a lot of work in and were rewarded with a two seed in the Stanford Regional,” said head coach Steven Trout. “Definitely a surprise to go out west but we are excited to. We didn’t really care where we ended up because we got lots of faith in what we do. We’ve been road warriors all year and have a good record on the road.”
TXST, the Sun Belt Conference regular season champions, will be making its sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament and first-time ever as an at-large team. All five previous appearances saw Texas State play in the Lone Star State.
Joining the Bobcats in the regional will be Stanford, UC Santa Barbara and Binghamton that will take place June 3-6 at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.
First up for Texas State will be the No. 3 seed Gauchos on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+.
