SAN MARCOS — Texas State Athletics has finalized plans to open Bobcat Stadium at 100% capacity for the 2021 football season, starting with Texas State’s home opener against the Baylor Bears from the Big XII Conference on Saturday, September 4th at 6 p.m.
“We’re really excited about the ability to host great crowds at Bobcat Stadium this fall,” said incoming Athletics Director Don Coryell. “We are looking forward to a great atmosphere all season long and are excited to build upon our unique game-day experiences.”
Texas State Athletics is excited to announce the Katzegarten, a new field-level experience open to all fans and located in the south end zone of Bobcat Stadium. The Katzegarten will feature lounge furniture, tents, photo booths, tailgate games and unique concessions like Kona Ice, AJ’s BBQ and craft beer on tap. During the Baylor game, Whataburger will hand out 1,000 free Whataburger sandwiches to Bobcat fans. Katzegarten is adjacent to the Coca-Cola Fun Zone in the southeast corner of the stadium. The Coca-Cola Fun Zone is a space where young Bobcat fans can enjoy activities including bounce houses, face painters, balloon artists, and a petting zoo. There is no additional cost to enjoy Katzegarten or the Coca-Cola Fun Zone.
Texas State Athletics is also thrilled to announce several live music performances centered around Bobcat football game days. Dylan Wheeler will play post-game on Jim Wacker Field following the Bobcats game against Troy on October 16th. On November 6th The Spazmatics will perform following the ULM game, and on November 13th Giovannie and the Hired Guns will play following the home finale vs Georgia Southern. All postgame concerts will be live on the field immediately following the game and are free to all fans with a football game ticket. All Texas State students get in free with a valid student ID.
Scheduled to play pregame, live from the Tailgate Central stage will be Wynn Williams on September 4th and Summer Rental on October 16th. Other acts for the remaining games are being finalized.
Texas State Tailgating is a great point of pride on Bobcat game days, and all tailgating options return to Bobcat Stadium this season. Making tailgating reservations will be more accessible than ever before as Texas State Athletics is introducing an easy-to-use online reservation process for larger tailgating groups. All spots in Tailgate Central starting this season will be available for purchase online at TXST.com/tickets. Green space tailgating is available at the University Events Center and Spring Lake Field. All tailgating options are detailed on TXST.com/gameday.
Tailgating at Texas State has something for everyone. This year, fans looking to have a fun time can enjoy live music by top local artists, interact with partners in the TXST Tailgate Fan Zone presented by H-E-B, and engage with the Bobcat football team during the Cat Walkthrough Tailgate Central before the game. Fans can also celebrate Bobcat pride with the Bobcat Marching Band, TXST spirit program, and the Strutters during the Bobcat Charge into the stadium before kickoff.
Several TXST partners are gearing up to provide awesome tailgate promotions this season. Double Dave’s will be on hand all season long distributing free pepperoni roll samples to fans throughout tailgate, and H-E-B is expanding their involvement with Texas State tailgating, offering even more experiences in the renamed TXST Tailgate Fan Zone presented by H-E-B.
Texas State University is planning for a safe, vibrant university experience this fall while continuing to navigate the challenges related to COVID-19. We are excited for the fall season and want to remind Bobcat fans of your personal responsibility to educate yourself about prevention strategies to reduce the infection and spread of COVID-19 in our Bobcat community. If you develop cold-like or other COVID-19 symptoms, Texas State asks that you stay home and get tested, regardless of vaccination status.
We are mindful that COVID-19 infections are on the rise. While Texas State University does not require vaccinations or the wearing of face masks, we strongly recommend getting vaccinated and the wearing of face coverings in indoor public settings on our campuses, regardless of vaccination status. We also suggest that fans consider wearing masks outside if gathering in large groups. Masks will be available to fans at all indoor areas of Bobcat Stadium during the 2021 season and upon request when entering the stadium.
