Texas State Head Football Coach Everett Withers Announces The Hiring Of Troy Douglas and Mike George

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Texas State head football coach Everett Withers announced the addition of two new members on his coaching staff with the hiring of Troy Douglas as an assistant coach and Michael George as a director of player personnel.
 
“We are excited to add Troy Douglas to our coaching staff,” Withers said. “Troy is an excellent fit in the culture of Texas State Football.  He has a great coaching history and experience coaching great players at programs around the country and in the state of Texas.”
 
Douglas will become the safeties coach and Assistant Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator Randall McCray will move to the Inside Linebackers position for the Bobcats.
 
A 27-year veteran in the collegiate coaching ranks, Douglas comes to Texas State after serving this past spring as an assistant coach at Sam Houston State and as the quality control coach for defense last year at Florida State. He also served one season as the secondary coach at Pittsburgh after coaching the two previous seasons at Iowa State, where he developed a trio of All-Big 12 defensive backs.
 
Douglas also was the defensive backs coach at North Carolina under Withers in 2009-11 when the Tar Heels intercepted 38 passes during the 2009 and 2010 campaigns and ranked among the nation’s Top 12 teams each year.  He also was the defensive backs coach at South Florida from 2006-08, when he coached former Dallas Cowboy and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mike Jenkins. He also coached at Indiana the two previous years, developing current Chicago Bears cornerback Tracy Porter.
 
His additional coaching stops include South Carolina State (2003), Michigan State (2001-2002), SMU (1997-2000), UTEP (1995-1996), East Tennessee State (1992-1994) and West Chester (1989-1991).
 
“We also are excited to bring Mike’s recruiting knowledge and expertise to San Marcos,” said Withers. “He will add immediate value to our recruiting efforts for years to come.”
 
Meanwhile, George joins Texas State’s staff after serving seven seasons on the football staff at Ohio, including the last four years as the director of player personnel and high school relations. He also was a graduate assistant coach on offense and worked with the wide receivers.
 
He went to Ohio after serving as an operations intern at The Ohio State University in 2009, assisting primarily with academics and community outreach. The Buckeyes finished with an 11-2 record, won an outright Big Ten and Rose Bowl championships and were No. 5 in the final AP poll.
 
In addition, he was a graduate assistant coach at Villanova, where he worked with tight ends and assisted with the offensive tackles in 2008. The Wildcats finished the season with a 10-3 record and were a NCAA D1-FCS Quarterfinalist.
 
George previously worked as a student intern with the offensive line at Ohio State in 2006-07 after starting his coaching career at his alma mater, Washington University in St. Louis. There, he was a four-year student-athlete for the football and track and field teams. He earned All-Conference recognition as a tight end in 2004 and earned multiple All-Conference honors in the shot put and discus.
