SAN MARCOS, Texas – Monday saw the Texas State soccer team receive the United Soccer Coaches Team and Sportsmanship Bronze Award. It is the third consecutive year that the Bobcats have earned the accolade with the team picking up the silver award the previous two seasons.
The award is given to teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.
In all, 34 men’s and women’s teams collegiate teams received either the Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards they are shown by referees throughout the season. Levels are broken down by Platinum (0%), Gold (1-10%), Silver (11-30%) and Bronze (31-50%).
TXST was carded six times over the team’s 17 matches for a percentage of 35.3 with none coming in the final six contests.
A total of seven Division I women’s programs received an award at one of the four levels. Joining the Bobcats in picking up an accolade were Belmont, Eastern Michigan, New Hampshire, North Florida and ULM.
