Texas State Soccer Hosts Ragin’ Cajuns Sunday Afternoon

This season head coach Kat Conner and the soccer team are raising funds in support of women fighting ovarian cancer through the Goals2CureTM initiative.

San Marcos, Texas – For the second straight week, the Texas State soccer team will play just once when the team hosts Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats enter the match 6-4-1 overall and third in the SBC with 12 points behind a 4-1-0 record. The Ragin’ Cajuns have compiled a 5-6-2 mark on the year and are 2-2-2 in league play.

Pacing TXST with four goals are Kaylee Davis and Rachel Grout. All of Davis’ scores have come in conference action while she has taken a SBC best 38 shots on the season. Grout also leads the team with four assists and 12 points. Contributing three goals and three assists is Kassi Hormuth. The Cedar Park, Texas native is tied for ninth in program history with 12 career assists and ranks 10th in both shots (125) and shots on goal (60).

Tallying two goals apiece are freshmen Sydney Kammer and Renny Moore. Jordan Kondikoff has been credited with three assists and the duo of Alyssa Phelan and Jessica Pikoff have two assists each.

Heather Martin recorded her third straight shutout between the posts and extended her shutout streak to 350 minutes last Sunday against Appalachian State. The sophomore enters Sunday ranked second in the Sun Belt with a 0.86 GAA and .826 save percentage. She has made 29 saves as well.

Backing Martin up in net is Kathryn Budde. The San Antonio native sports a 1.13 GAA, fourth in the Sun Belt, 13 saves and a .722 save percentage.

Scouting Louisiana

Louisiana lost at ULM on Thursday 2-1 and are now winless in its last three matches. The Ragin’ Cajuns have conference victories over Arkansas State (2-1) and Georgia Southern (3-2) while drawing with Georgia State (0-0) and Little Rock (1-1). Their other loss was a 3-0 decision at home to Coastal Carolina on Sept. 29.

Leading UL with four goals is Haley Boroch after netting the team’s lone goal against the Warhawks. Denice Emokpae has found the back of the net three times this season. Both Ashleigh Cade and Una Einarsdottir have scored twice while Cade paces the squad with four assists and 31 shots. Credited with three assists is Kimberly Grasso.

Along with Cade, Whitney Taggart (23), Boroch (22), Einarsdottir (27), Emokpae (23) and Grasso (26) have surpassed 10 shot attempts. Overall, the Ragin’ Cajuns lead the SBC with 212 shots and 16.31 shots per match.

In between the posts, Mackenzie Lee has appeared in 11 contests with 10 starts. She has allowed 11 goals for a 1.04 GAA and stopped 43 shots to post a .796 save percentage. The sophomore has been in net for all three of UL’s shutouts this year.

Also making appearances in net has been Victoria Mendes and Victoria Ryan. Mendes has a 4.00 GAA and four saves in two matches. Ryan enters with a 3.51 GAA, nine saves and a.643 save percentage spanning three contests.

Series vs. Ragin’ Cajuns

Texas State leads the all-time series 4-1 over the Ragin’ Cajuns. Last season the Bobcats won 2-1 in overtime. Grout scored the tying goal when she whipped in a corner kick that found the back of the net with a little under three minutes left in regulation. Brooke Ramsey juked out two defenders and beat the keeper from 18 yards out in the 97th minute for the match-winner.

Since joining the Sun Belt, TXST is 3-1 against UL. The lone loss was on Oct. 18, 2013 on the road by the score of 5-2. The Bobcats won the first meeting between the programs on Sept. 22, 2000 by the score of 9-0. The nine goals are tied for the third most ever netted by the Bobcats in a match in program history.

Goals2Cure

The players and staff are collecting pledges for each goal scored this season. Donations will go directly to benefit a scholarship program through the Texas Oncology Foundation.
