Texas State Soccer Hosts ULM In Annual Teal Match

ULM lost last Friday at home to Southeastern Louisiana 6-0 while Sunday’s match against Grambling was ruled a no contest as heavy rain in the area stopped the match before 70 minutes had been played.


SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team returns home to the Bobcat Soccer Complex for its Sun Belt Conference opener Friday at 7 p.m. for the team’s third annual Teal Match to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. On Sunday, the Bobcats close out non-conference action against Houston Baptist at 1 p.m. at Sorrels Field.

Entering the weekend, TXST is 2-5-0 on the season while the Warhawks are winless at 0-7-0 and the Huskies are 2-5-0.

The Bobcats are coming off a 2-1 loss at then 18th-ranked Texas that saw Kaylee Davis score the opening goal of the match to put the Longhorns behind for the first time all season. It was her third goal of the year and 10th in her Texas State career.

Jordan Kondikoff comes in tied for the team lead in points (6) with Davis behind two goals and assists. Also finding the back of the net this year has been Haley Groff and Renny Moore. The duo, along with five other Bobcats, have been credited with an assist this year.

Between the posts, Heather Martin has allowed only three goals in 315 minutes of action for a 0.86 GAA. She has also made 22 saves for a .880 save percentage. Kathryn Budde comes into the weekend with a 1.65 GAA, .727 save percentage and 16 stops.

Scouting ULM

ULM lost last Friday at home to Southeastern Louisiana 6-0 while Sunday’s match against Grambling was ruled a no contest as heavy rain in the area stopped the match before 70 minutes had been played. Of the Warhawks four goals this season, two came in a 5-2 setback at Northwestern State. They also tallied a score at Jacksonville State (2-1) and McNeese (2-1, OT).

Pacing ULM with two goals is Mackenzie Bell. Her 11 shots and nine shots on goals are team-highs as well. Both Maelwenn Faifas and Cassidy Wiest have scored once this season. Earning assists has been Alexandria Skidmore, Skehkinah Wells and Wiest.

Starting four matches in goal has been Bre Truscott. She has a 3.17 GAA, 32 saves and .711 save percentage. Brooke-Lynn Scroggins comes in with a 5.00 GAA and .595 save percentage with 22 stops in three contests.

Series vs. Warhawks

Texas States holds a 12-6-1 advantage in the all-time series with ULM. Last season, the Bobcats won 3-0 on the road. The last time the teams met in San Marcos, they played to a 1-1 draw on Senior Day that also eliminated the Bobcats from qualifying for the Sun Belt Tournament that season. When playing at home against ULM, TXST is 5-3-1 all-time. Friday will be the first-ever meeting between the programs in the month of September.

Scouting Houston Baptist

Houston Baptist has lost three straight matches, the most recent being a 4-0 loss at No. 18 Texas on Sunday. The other two defeats have been to in-state programs North Texas (2-0) and SMU (2-1). Prior to facing Texas State on Sunday, the Huskies host Abilene Christian Friday night for its Southland Conference opener.

Avery Cortez leads HBU with three goals. Also finding the back of the net multiple times this year is Sabriah Spencer with two. She also paces the team with 12 shots and eight shots on goal. The Huskies three assists have gone to Baylii Bieke, Talin Rizo and Autumn Wildung.

Alanis Guevara is the only player to appear between the posts for HBU. She has allowed 16 goals for a 2.29 GAA, made 42 saves and sports a .724 save percentage.

Series vs. Huskies

Texas State is undefeated against Houston Baptist at 4-0-1. Sunday will be the first meeting between the teams since Aug. 31, 2012 in Houston that ended in a 1-1 draw. The Bobcats are 1-0-1 all-time when playing HBU in the Space City.
