Texas State Softball Announces Signing Of Sierra Steimel

by, Jen Lawson

Head coach Ricci Woodard and the Texas State softball team announce the signing of Sierra Steimel. Steimel, a native of Chandler, Ariz., will join the Bobcats next year as a junior as she competed at Phoenix College her first two seasons. The Bobcats will look for her to see time in the outfield as well as time behind the plate.

“We can’t wait to see the elements that Sierra is going to add to the roster next year,” said Woodard. “She can hit with power or she can use her speed to get on the base path.”

After hitting .419 her freshman season at Phoenix College, Steimel has improved and is hitting .479 this season. In 2015, she helped led her team to a Region 1 Championship as well as a sixth place finish at the NJCAA Nationals.

This season to date, Steimel has scored 53 runs (sixth in conference) with 40 RBIs (20th in conference). She owns a 45-game hitting streak and so far this season she has not been completely retired in a single game. Steimel has also stolen 19 bases (fourth in conference) this season and leads her Phoenix team with 71 hits through 46 games. On February 23, 2016, Steimel was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Academically, Steimel is a Presidents Honors Scholar at Phoenix College and is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

Steimel attended Basha High School where she was a .421 career hitter with four-straight playoff appearances. With a 108-31 overall record at Basha, Steimel was a 2014 All-District Second-Team selection and 2014 All-Section Second-Team pick.

“Sierra’s passion for the game is going to make her an immediate impact for this program!” added Woodard. “She is a hard worker both on and off the field and continues to push herself and the people around her to be their best.”

Steimel will join the Bobcats in the fall of 2016.
