Texas State Sophomore Named To Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List

The 2017 Rimington Trophy recipient will be announced on December 6 and presented live on December 7, 2017 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Rimington Trophy Committee announced Tuesday that Texas State University sophomore center Aaron Brewer was named to its 2017 Fall Watch List.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I FBS College Football. Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised more than $2.9 million for the cystic fibrosis community.

The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised more than $130 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-American center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the Outland Trophy’s only double winner as the nation’s finest college interior lineman.

A 2017 preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection by Athlon Sports, Street & Smith’s and Lindy’s Sports Brewer earned a spot on the list after turning in an excellent rookie campaign in 2016 that culminated in All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention honors as voted by the league’s head coaches and select media members along with Third Team honors from Phil Steele Publications.

Brewer enters his sophomore campaign after making 11 starts and recording 54 knockdowns as a true freshman. The Dallas native played in each of the Bobcats’ 12 games last season, joining the TXST starting offensive line at left guard in the second game at No. 24 Arkansas. Brewer finished 2016 starting seven games at guard and the final four contests at center.

Brewer is one of three centers from the Sun Belt Conference, one of five true sophomores and one of six players from schools in Texas on this year’s Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List.

The 2017 Rimington Trophy recipient will be announced on December 6 and presented live on December 7, 2017 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
