Texas State University named among nation’s top ‘military friendly’ schools for 2021-2022

Staff Reports

SAN MARCOS – Texas State University has been named a top 10 military-friendly school for 2021-2022 by MilitaryFriendly.com.

Texas State has ranked number six among Tier 2 research institutions ranked for the services they provide to veteran students and families. The complete list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine.

Melissa Hyatt, associate university registrar and co-chair of the Veteran Advisory Council attributes TXST’s high ranking to the dedication and multi-departmental effort

“This group forms the Veterans Advisory Council (VAC), which includes the Office of Veteran Affairs, Institutional Inclusive Excellence-Student Initiatives, Veteran Academic Success Center, Veteran’s Alliance at TXST and others,” Hyatt said. “Programs such as the Veteran Two-Step program, welcome and graduation receptions, the creation of EDP 2150 for veterans and the Veteran and Military Connected website are a few ways this group works to assist in recruiting, retaining and graduating our students.”

According to the Texas State University Newsroom, the rankings were developed from public data about the institutions and surveys submitted to more than 1,200 schools across the country. Survey responses were weighted according to six categories: academic policies and compliance, military student support and retention, graduation and career outcomes, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, and financial aid and loan repayment.

Final survey results and ratings are determined by combining an institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet minimum thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans. The benchmark is set by the score of the leading institution.
