Texas State Volleyball Win Streak Halted In Austin

Texas used a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead. TXST fought back to within three at 16-13, but the Longhorns extended their lead back out to 20-14 and never looked back.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas State volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) to No. 6 Texas Thursday night inside Gregory Gymnasium.

The Bobcats (5-4) had their five-match win streak snapped, while the nationally-ranked Longhorns improved to 4-1 on the year.

Senior Amy Pflughaupt led all players with 15 kills, and true freshman Emily DeWalt posted 19 assists.

Micaya White was the lone Longhorn in double figures in either kills or digs, as she finished with a double-double of 10 each. Ashley Shook distributed 32 assists.

Texas led the match in kills (42-30), attack percentage (.379-.218), assists (36-27), aces (9-0), digs (33-30), and blocks (4-3).

SET 1

Texas took the opening period by a 25-18 margin. The home team initially used the friendly confines to find a 10-5 advantage.

The Longhorns extended their lead to 12-7, but the maroon and gold powered back to draw level at 12-12. From that point, Texas ventured on another 10-5 swing to take control 22-17. The Bobcats were unable to find another surge as the Longhorns were able to close out the period.

SET 2

The Longhorns won the second set 25-19. Texas State went on top 3-2 early, and the Bobcats stayed close trailing just 10-8. A 3-0 run from UT was countered by a 5-2 swing from TXST.

Texas led by as much as six points the rest of the way and never trailed again. The maroon and gold kept close at 18-16 until a final 7-3 run shut the door on the comeback attempt.

SET 3

Texas State played into a 10-10 tie in the third set, but the home team would overpower the Bobcats in the end. Texas used a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead. TXST fought back to within three at 16-13, but the Longhorns extended their lead back out to 20-14 and never looked back.

The Bobcats are slated to wrap up their week with a home clash against No. 16 Kentucky at 4 p.m. Sept. 8 inside Strahan Arena.
