Texas State Women’s Basketball Inks Zandra Emanuel For 2016-17 Season

by, Jen Lawson

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Head coach Zenarae Antoine and the Texas State women’s basketball team announced the signing of Zandra Emanuel Monday. Emanuel will join the Bobcats for the 2016-17 season as a junior after transferring from Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas.

“I am very happy that Zandra is joining the Bobcat family,” said Antoine. “She is a very enjoyable young woman off the court and on the court she is a competitor.  It is not an easy feat to be number one in defensive rebounding nationally and second in overall rebounds!”

Emanuel finished her Coastal Bend career as the NJCAA Division I rebounding leader with 428 total rebounds and 311 defensive boards after the 2015-16 season. With 14.8 rebounds per game, she finished the season second in the nation.

This past season, she registered at least 10 rebounds in 27 of her 29 contests. Several of her top performances at Coastal Bend include a 14 point, 19 rebound game against Trinity Valley Community College on January 6 and a 20-point contest against Southwest Texas Junior College on January 29. She led her Coastal Bend squad with a 48.5 percent field goal mark.

In addition to her rebounding abilities, Emanuel ranked 5th in the nation in blocks with 83 and 36th in the country in steals with 79. She started and played in 29 games this past year with an average of over 30 minutes per game. Her successes on the basketball floor ultimately earned her Region XIV All-Conference Team honors for the 2015-16 season.

Emanuel also was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) at Coastal Bend and has been a member since the fall of 2015.

A native of Houston, Texas, Emanuel is the daughter of Thurman Emanuel and Sandra Chandler Emanuel. She attended C.E. King High School in Houston where she averaged just shy of a double-double with 9.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.

“Zandra’s work ethic on and off the floor will complement our current roster,” added Antoine. “She is exactly what we look for in a Texas State University student-athlete and I am excited to have her with us.”
