Texas State’s HEAT Wins Keep Texas Beautiful Award

“Without their dedication, passion, and drive, Sights & Sounds of Christmas could not have reached the 80 percent landfill diversion rate last year,” said Enhancement Initiatives Manager Amy Kirwin.

The Texas State Human Environment Animal Team (HEAT) has been named the 2018 Youth Organization Award winner for its efforts in beautification and landfill diversion.

The award will be presented at the Keep Texas Beautiful Award Ceremony in Georgetown June 13. 

The Keep Texas Beautiful Youth and Educator award honors extraordinary students, educators and volunteers working to improve and beautify their communities.

Keep San Marcos Beautiful nominated HEAT for the award because of their City beautification efforts and educating their peers on various environmental issues on the Texas State University campus and in the San Marcos community.

HEAT has made their imprint on the community by helping and participating in citywide events, adding two Adopt-a-Spot locations, picking up litter across the city and participating in river cleanups.

They also promote landfill diversion, which involves taking recyclable and compostable waste out of the trash stream and keeping it out of our limited landfill space.
