Texas State’s Marcus Ripley Named Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

New Orleans – Texas State freshman kicker Marcus Ripley has been selected as the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Ripley played a key role in helping Texas State win its season-opening game at Ohio 56-54 in triple overtime last Saturday.

Playing in his first collegiate game and attempting the first field goal of his career, Ripley kicked a 27-yard field goal to tie the score at 38-38 at the end of regulation and send the game into overtime. Then, he kicked a second field goal from 37-yards in the first overtime. He also connected on all six of his extra-point attempts in the game, making five in regulation and another in the second overtime to tie the score at 48-48 and send the game into a deciding third overtime.

The victory gives the Bobcats a 1-0 record in their first season under head coach Everett Withers. Texas State will play its next game at Arkansas on Sept. 17 before returning home to host nationally-ranked Houston on Sept. 24 and Incarnate Word on Oct. 1.
