Texas State’s Tyler Jones Named FBS Hero Of The Week

SAN MARCOS, Texas- Hero Sports announced Friday that Texas State senior quarterback Tyler Jones has been named the Week 1 FBS Hero of the Week following his record-setting performance at Ohio last Saturday. Jones, who helped lead the Bobcats to a 56-54 overtime victory, received 94.7 percent of votes by college football fans on the herosports.com website this week.

He set a school record with 40 completions and tied another school record with 418 passing yards to lead Texas State to a 56-54 overtime victory at Ohio. Jones completed 40 of 55 passes for four touchdowns, ran for a two-yard TD and caught a 22-yard TD reception in the game.

He also helped Texas State overcome a 10-point deficit when he threw a touchdown pass with 8:37 left to play and another three-yard TD toss with 51 seconds left. Then, he led the Bobcats on another scoring drive in the final 33 seconds of regulation to set up a game-tying field goal. In the three overtime periods, he threw another three-yard TD pass, caught a 22-yard TD reception and threw a game-winning shovel pass for the two-point conversion. He also is the first Bobcat player in the last 50 years to record a touchdown run, pass and reception in the same game.

Jones and the Bobcats will play their next game on Sept. 17 when Texas State travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a game against the Razorbacks. The contest kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on the SEC Alternate Network.
