“The Lone Star State has flourished because we allow innovation to take root and give businesses the opportunity to succeed. I thank Area Development Magazine for their recognition, and look forward to continued growth in the Texas economy…”

Governor Greg Abbott today announced that Texas has been awarded the Gold Shovel Award by Area Development Magazine for new job growth and business investments. This annual award recognizes states that drive job creation and investment through business-friendly policies and improvements in infrastructure that attract new employers, as well as additional investments in expanding current operations. This is the sixth year Texas has won a Gold Shovel Award.

“Texas continues to lead the nation in job creation and economic growth, and businesses across the globe are taking notice,” said Governor Abbott. “The Lone Star State has flourished because we allow innovation to take root and give businesses the opportunity to succeed. I thank Area Development Magazine for their recognition, and look forward to continued growth in the Texas economy.”

Area Development cites the more than 6,000 new jobs created by NTT Data Services in Plano, another 1,600 jobs to be created through expansion of Nutribiotech USA in Garland, and 4,000 more jobs created by USAA, UPS and McGregor, and points to the state’s successes in petroleum and chemical production and booming technology industry growth, for Texas’ ranking in this year’s awards.
