San Marcos, TX – A karaoke-style group sing-along, a new Pop-Up Art Show and demonstration, and a variety of unique vendors are lined up for the Feb. 8 San Mercado from 9 – 2 PM inside and outside the Price Center at 222 W. San Antonio St., downtown San Marcos.
Popular Love songs will be the focus of the sing-along beginning at 10 a.m. in the 1910 Room.
New and returning vendors this month include artists, recyclers/up-cyclers, natural bath and beauty products, novelty fabric items, costume jewelry, fashion nails, makeup, housewares and more.
“MAKING FACES – From Picasso to Piglets” is the title of the Pop-Up portrait show and Demo in the 1893 Room brought to you by the ARTCXHIX AND DUDES who will share an exhibition of fun and funky portraits and also offer demonstrations on how to paint a portrait.
The artists, a group of roughly a dozen from the Canyon Lake area will be on hand from noon – 2 to share their talents and meet with interested visitors.
In addition, “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” a colorful and creative new art show featuring 81 original works displayed in an eclectic mix of media, subjects and whimsical treatments throughout the Center and a series of unique batik owls served as the starting point for a new series of quilts created by Bee Friends that hang in our stairwell gallery.
Most of the works are available to purchase.
San Mercado is part of a standing line-up of free, family-friendly activities taking place downtown on the second Saturday of each month as part of the Downtown Association of San Marcos’ (DASM) Downtown Walkabout.
Additional reoccurring events include the Farmer’s Market, Art Squared (March – Dec.) and special activities in downtown galleries, merchants and eateries.
The Famers Market features live music till 1 p.m. and free Pedi Cabs sponsored by DASM will be available to shuttle between locations.
Admission to San Mercado is free and open to all. New Vendors are always welcome! Indoor Booths are $30; Outdoor $20.
The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission.
Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
